About Us
Forward Edge-AI, Inc. is a leader in AI, cybersecurity, and advanced technology solutions for national security, defense, and aerospace markets. We design and deliver cutting-edge electronic systems that meet the world’s most demanding standards. Our engineers work at the forefront of hardware innovation, from secure compute modules to mission-ready networking systems.
Position Summary
We are seeking an Embedded Systems Engineer with strong electrical engineering fundamentals to join our advanced hardware and systems development team. This hybrid role combines embedded C programming expertise with hands-on hardware bring-up and board-level integration.
The ideal candidate is equally comfortable writing kernel drivers, debugging low-level networking interfaces, and reworking boards in the lab. In addition, this role includes contributing to the development and optimization of our encryption software solution that runs in Linux user space, extending features and improving performance in security-critical applications.
This is a hands-on, cross-disciplinary position that bridges hardware, embedded firmware, and secure Linux applications.
Responsibilities
Board Bring-Up & Hardware Integration
- Debug and validate custom boards, working directly with schematics and datasheets
- Perform board bring-up, test peripherals, and troubleshoot hardware/software integration issues
- Design and implement simple PCBs for test fixtures and auxiliary modules
Embedded Software Development
- Write, optimize, and debug C firmware for SoCs, MCUs, and networked systems
- Develop for Linux, RTOS, and Embedded Linux environments, with a strong focus on Yocto-based builds
- Modify and extend the Linux kernel, including writing device drivers for networking and I/O peripherals
- Manage kernel ↔ user space context switching efficiently when interfacing with NICs and the Ethernet stack
Encryption Software Development
- Contribute to and maintain our encryption software stack running in Linux user space
- Add new features, optimize existing code, and perform performance tuning for high-throughput secure networking
- Collaborate with the broader team to integrate encryption with system-level designs
Networking & System Performance
- Work closely with high-speed Ethernet interfaces, optimizing performance and reliability
- Debug and tune low-level driver interactions for throughput and latency optimization
Cross-Functional Engineering
- Collaborate with digital/PCB engineers on hardware/software co-design
- Work with 3D modeling tools (Fusion 360 or similar) to support enclosure and prototype development
Testing & Troubleshooting
- Use oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and JTAG tools for low-level debug
- Support system-level validation and stress testing
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field
- Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret security clearance
- 5+ years in embedded systems engineering with both hardware and software responsibilities
- Proven ability in board bring-up, schematic reading, and PCB-level debugging
- Proficiency in C programming for embedded platforms
- Strong background in Linux kernel, device drivers, RTOS, and Yocto-based Embedded Linux
- Deep understanding of kernel ↔ user space communication, especially in networking contexts
- Experience with encryption software development in Linux user space, including performance tuning
- Proficiency with Git for source control and collaborative development
- Experience with Ethernet stacks, NICs, and driver-level tuning
- Hands-on PCB design experience for simple boards (preferably Altium)
- Familiarity with 3D modeling tools (Fusion 360, SolidWorks, or similar)
Preferred
- Prior experience in secure networking devices or cryptographic modules
- Familiarity with watchdogs, U-Boot, bootloaders, secure boot, and anti-tamper elements
Application Process
Interested candidates should submit:
- A cover letter describing their technical expertise and prior project achievements
- A detailed resume or CV highlighting relevant design and project experience
Important: We do not provide visa sponsorship for this role. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without immigration support (now or in the future), including but not limited to H-1B, TN, or STEM OPT Training Plans.
